Week 5
Posted by mkellym on April 27, 2008
Monday: My legs are still quite tired and heavy after the weekend’s training, and I felt sluggish most of the day. I planned on doing a 16k run on tired legs and I did it, in 1:47. No world record, but I felt good throughout though my legs were heavy.
Tuesday: I am determined to keep the momentum going, and did a 3k technique and strength swim session. I had intended it to be 5k, but I cut it short because the pool was very busy, and slow swimmers were getting into the fast lane. I was happy enough, because I felt strong and fluid in the water. Something I haven’t felt for the last few weeks.
Wednesday: Didn’t do any training. Took the day off and tried to get more rest.
Thursday: Run 14k in 1:29. Felt very strong on the run. I feel happy now that I can run this sort of distance easily now.
Friday: Up early in the morning and met Derek at 6 in the gym. We did a 4k swim set, and felt strong at the end. I am still finding it difficult to get my technique going in the morning. It took me nearly 2k just to start feeling good in the water.
Saturday: The plan was for the same as last week, just increase the length of the run off the bike. So that is what we did. The wind was with us all the way down to Tullow. We then turned around. We had averaged 31.2k an hour until then. On the way back we took turns at the front passing out every two or three minutes. The person behind sticking to the wheel in front. The result was that our average speed only dropped by 1k an hour into a howling gale. In the end we cycled 127k and ran for forty minutes.
Sunday: I decided to take the day off. Took it easy and did those boring household chores that training makes difficult to do.

Keep it going big man! I’m watching you …
We’ve still a long way to go, so there’s no need to be bursting any guts at this stage … i think and hope.
Hoping to do one or maybe two long long runs over the weekend – maybe in Marlay or even in Phoenix park ? Any thoughts … ?
And Saturday a long cycle ?????
I’m feeling better in recent weeks with running off the bike. Initially it was the same as walking, but now its not proving as difficult as before. Still slow but …
